A perennial salad herb which is both ornamental and edible, Barbarea vulgaris was once a staple of productive cottage gardens, where fruit and veg jostled alongside exuberant flower patches. Barbarea ‘Variegated Winter Cream’ is an ideal candidate for a potager plot, forming handsome, evergreen rosettes of glossy dark green foliage with bold cream splashes. The leaves provide a peppery alternative to watercress and given some protection can be harvested throughout the winter. In summer, it produces sprays of attractive, small yellow flowers which are a welcome food plant for honey bees. Although termed a short-lived perennial, it will survive for several years and if allowed will seed about to create new, young plants. Height and Spread: 45cm (18”).
Plant height and spread is seasonal therefore we list by pot size rather than a defined plant size. The height and spread of the plant delivered will vary depending on the season, meaning arrival images are an indication only.
