Japanese Barberries are always popular for their coloured foliage and seasonal changes. This dazzling variety is no exception! Citrus-yellow foliage cloaks the spreading stems from spring, remaining bright gold throughout the summer, although in shaded spots, the leaves may become more green-yellow as the season progresses. The tiny flowers are hard to spot, but rich in nectar, attracting plenty of pollinating insects to the garden.
As autumn approaches the leaves transform to brilliant shades of red and orange, accompanied by a glossy scarlet berries which are loved by birds. Berberis thunbergii ‘Aurea’ is a slow-growing, deciduous shrub with a rounded, spreading habit. A useful plant for brightening up ‘lack-lustre’ borders and encouraging wildlife to the garden. Its thorny stems also make it an excellent security shrub. Height and spread: 150cm (59″).
Plant height and spread is seasonal therefore we list by pot size rather than a defined plant size. The height and spread of the plant delivered will vary depending on the season, meaning arrival images are an indication only.
