This delightful deciduous Woodbine bears showy, pale yellow and ivory blooms from midsummer to September, with a powerful sweet perfume. Glossy scarlet berries take centre stage as the scented flowers fade, providing plenty of late summer interest, and food for wild birds. Honeysuckle periclymenum ‘Scentsation’ makes a wonderful addition to cottage gardens. Let it climb walls and fences, or train it over pergolas and doorways where its fragrance can be really appreciated. Height: 7m (22′). Spread: 1m (3′).
Culinary note: The parboiled leaves are used as a vegetable and the flowers can be sucked for their sweet nectar, used as a vegetable or made into a syrup and pudding. A tea can also be made from the leaves, buds and flowers. For more details about edible flowers click here.
